On a purely superficial level, I’ve always loved the cover for Black’s Law Dictionary. It’s what an Arthur C. Clark anthology should look like.
I would also venture to guess that you could pull a decent amount of conceptual rhetoric out of splitting a beam of light into its various components as an analogy for finding truth though law, etc.

this site is terrific. i really appreciate the brilliant and insightful analysis i frequently find on here.
Something tells me that a Law dictionary needs to look generic beauGest. But for generic, this looks good and has a very unique approach to the topic. The design style is dated. But with the right kind of paper (I’m seeing an uncouted stock) it could be very modern. Kind Dark Side of the Moonish. Or Gay with the color scheme. But over all…. well, I’ll stop gasbaggin’ here…
it actually is part of the “gay” flag colors. I had to check it out for myself. But the point is that it has that flare if you will. I don’t think this cover is “hideous”. I mean, uninspired would be more appropriate. For a law book it has a certain touch and feel that is at least not depressing. Very dated look though. I really wish Ben would throw another cover up though. It’s high time.
This one just doesn’t entice me all that much. There were lots of books that looked like this in my parents’ house growing up. Maybe it feels dated to me? I appreciate the touch of color, but I don’t think I’d pick it up in the book store.
This is the spectrum of color, the separation of light, basic stuff! The spectrum of light in color theory symbolizes unity in the light, and inside the black background and tittle, my opinion is that this is a symbol of unity in a blind less law system. The spectrum of light has been a simile for “a divine promise” way before the gay movement took it as a “flag”. Its a pretty poetic cover it you ask me.
This cover is sooo boring. i sort of appreciate the design, but it just looks like the more elderly and dog-eared text books we were issued at school. Lawyers and rainbows generally dont mix either… sorry lawyers! I thought it was a dictionary when i first looked at it, so well done to whoever designed it- who doesnt like dictionaries?

I really don’t know what to say. It looks like a dated university press cover – very generic.

At least they stayed away from the scales of justice. Ugh.

does no one else think this is hideous?? and the last time i looked, the primary colors (+ green) weren’t part of the “gay color scheme”...

The PW diversion that FWIS does should have the ability to comment here as well. It is annoying to have to go all the way to PW to make a comment.
A hereby start the campaign for, “PW Cover Comments Back @ FWIS”. Those in favor say “Aye”.

Ditto.

lolz… Is this a joke?
Gay’s may have no rights under US law, but at least their flag made it on the cover of a law book.
You may want to delete this post, Ben.

Ah. Mike is back in the house with his low brow comments. Lets give him a round of applause.

makes me think of a physics textbook cover from the 70s.
