I'm shocked this hasn't been commented on! I received this book as part of my subscription to McSweeney's new book club, the best thing in the world. This book itself is kinda tedious. The cover is pretty cool.
Art is by Jason Holley. The jacket doesn't actually cover the entire book (the reddish field on top with the text is actually the face of the book itself, the colored portion is the jacket). As for the illustration...the story has something to do with making bricks that move themselves to music...a supposed explanation for the pyramids. Or something. It's also a love story, too, I guess...hence the male & female mud figures.

The cover was reviewed and commented on PW where FWIS does regular book cover reviews.
It is wonderful. The red bar is a bit after the fact. Otherwise a pretty cool piece of art...
Bowl of Cherries
The old is new is old again.
An odd cover to be sure, what say you?
