Very cool. We should have a pre-posting up here to critique and vote.
While I love this illustration, I think it is a bit too literal as are all the other covers I have seen for this so far. I do like this execution. The bold blue and subdued title/author.
The prize is the publication of the cover? Sounds like a good deal for Harper Collins…. Why do I keep seeing these kinds of contests posted on respectable design blogs? (http://www.no-spec.com/)
Harper Collins is inviting you to submit a design concept for J.G.Ballard’s Crash. There’s a chance it might even get published.
Pretty rad. Read up more on it here.
Also, Henry Sene Yee, the designer of the Crash cover you see on the left, has a nice blog. Though he doesn’t update it enough.

Never seen this in person. Is the suggestion of a fractal-like swirl part of the design, or just an artifact of scanning/photography…?

Sex and car crashes… I’ll pass.

Wonder if they considered leaving title off altogether?

Wait is it still rad if the contest is only open to UK residents? Did I read this incorrecly:
The competition is open to residents of the UK and Eire aged 16 and over only. Only one entry per person. We cannot return or acknowledge submissions.

That’s silly. And thus ends that.
