You really need to see this jacket in person to get a full appreciation for it. The paper it’s printed on is a silver foil, so there are no pure whites or blacks, just this sleek, sexy, obfuscated dirtiness. Which not only fits the general Stones feel, but the heroin-induced Exile On Main St. album in particular.

I like the austere, all-caps, shades-of-black type treatment. And like The Stones said: “Let it bleed.” (Groan.)

mmmm. Sounds lovely. I saw the original limited edition of this once. It was done very differently, but this is a nice version—especially with what you’re describing with the touch plates…
I wonder if it is a Robert Frank photo. He did the cover photo of Exile. If anyone has not seen his work check out Hold Still Keep Going and the Americans.
Photograph is by Michael Cooper. Earlier designs included layouts mimicking the LP cover. You can’t tell from this scan but the jacket has a gloss finish with a matte uv spot on the black title type which helps the readability factor. But I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t easier to read though. I actually like the back of the jacket more than the front. It shows another shot by Michael Cooper of Keith Richards swimming nude in his pool with a long excerpt set in all caps.

Hmmmmm. Not much of a reaction one way or the other to this one.

Ditto, but maybe more toward pfff.

Call me literal, but I wish the title were easier to read. As it is, the author’s previous credits look more important than the name of the book.

“wish the title were easier to read”
i think its the result of poor scanning. plus the word “rolling stone” in silver wraps the cover….
left justify, bold text, tone down color value, straightforward, semi formal, mean, fashioned etc… etc..etc…fits to its subjects character. i like it…

A lost opportunity to an amazing cover.

Scooley – Thanks for posting. For what it’s worth, I like the fact that illegibility of it. It adds character.

I feel it! I love it too!

Love it. Jagger looks like a putz, but the black and white and type is working all kinds of cool.

I love it, and I love Mick Jagger.
