Truth be told, I’m not sure I really understand this cover on an intellectual level. I originally assumed that the book dealt with a romance that was askew. Which would explain a typically romantic scene being turned on its head.
The book synopsis doesn’t really support this theory.
Regardless, I think it does a wonderful job of communicating on a visceral level. It gives off a feeling of loss and romance and tragedy simultaneously.

No small task.

I love this cover!
Even the back cover jacket is handled well. Especially with all the copy.
I feel a burden lifted off my shoulders. I have been trying to figure out this book cover for some time now.
I believe the message is suppose to be simple and clear as you said. Loss, romance and tragedy.
