If you’ve read the book, you’ll know that it fits the story perfectly. “Cheap and trashy” is exactly right—it’s not only the mood, it’s the point.
One of the threads in the story follows a home shopping network host who is tortured by an unknown “fan” sending her increasingly hostile emails about the tiny flaws (like upper-lip hair) she can supposedly see on her giant screen tv.
This cover is supposed to look like a closeup of a big fake smile on a television screen.
Haha.
Gah!
“A relentless spoof of cable’s home-shopping mania”
So perfect.

And how “a novel” is confined to just one tooth.

This is also a complete rip-off of Len Deighton’s ‘Only When I Larf’, published by Michael Joseph, London, 1968.
