The understated typography does wonders to enhance the mood of the book. With such visceral words, imagine how overboard it could have gotten in the hands of a lesser designer.

I really enjoyed the book. I agree with the design comments, but why do you suppose he placed the black type on top of pills instead of between them?
i like the choice of tyoeface, but not the arrangment.
setting the words on top of the pills is ok with me, it seems less contrived or ‘art directed’ that way (a personal preference)
but the arrangment of sex, drugs, and cocoa puffs is annoying.
i also think akzidenz medium rather than helvetica wold have been nicer.

Truthfully, I love the arrangement of the words. It gives it such a dystopian + maladjusted feel.
Had the title been placed left-aligned & normal, it would have been entirely reliant on the pills-as-cereal concept, which, to be honest, is border-line gimmicky. As is, everything works together wonderfully.
i seriously cant believe that there is a book called Sex, drugs and cocoa puffs!!! that is just so funny!! i really want to read it!! thanks tho it made me laugh to know that there is a book called that

This cover is just awesome. It’s deceptively simple. Unbalanced from a distance, drawing you in for a closer look…I can imagine on the shelf it would be framed beautifully by the busier designs that surround it.
I love this cover! It’s what made me pick up the book (which turned out to be one of my favorites). And I completely agree with the assessment that the arrangement of the type gives a disjointed feel. Really I feel like this cover, unlike so many, captures the essence and spirit of what the author was saying> which is incredibly impressive considering that it’s just a collection of essays.
