Note that the ovals in the mirrors are a reflective foil.

The black, somber treatment combined with the subtle humor of the spooky mirrors perfectly reflects the mood Ms. Roach brought to the book.

I’d also like to note that when I was 6 or 7 I saw some suspense movie that I probably shouldn’t have. It took place on the English countryside in an old house, the protagonist was a young woman who was haunted by the devil, who happened to live in ornate mirrors scattered around the house.

Scared the crap out of me.
I had a hard time with mirrors for a long time after that.

Thanks for the reminder, Keenan!

What a horrible review to put on the front. “Witty… clever… and thoroughly entertaining.” Yeah, like I haven’t seen that on the cover of every bad Tim Allen movie since the beginning of time. Snore.

The fact that the subject matter is the exact opposite of a Tim Allen movie is what makes the review relevant.

I mean, if you saw that he was in a new movie that you assumed was a comedy, and the review was “dark, somber, incisive”, wouldn’t you be more interested?

This is a really good solution: a subtle visual reminder of a feeling, time or place that you can’t put your finger on right away but immedietly gives you an accurate impression of the subject matter.

Personally it reminded me of the haunted house ride at Disney World.

Ben – the movie you’re referring to is Watcher in the Woods.

haha, no. I’ve seen Watcher in the Woods, (it’s one of my wife’s favorite movies for whatever reason), it’s not it.

Thanks though.

I thought this cover was really overrated when Ben posted it, but I just walked by it on the shelf and it looked like it was “following me.” tres spooky

Watcher in the Woods… heh. I’ve got that on DVD. Lynn Holly Johnson is the best worst actress ever. Oh, and cool cover.
