Stop Me If You've Heard This: A History and Philosophy of Jokes

I have a real hard time designing layouts like this; I just can't ever get the type all set to where I like it. Great use of the speech-bubble effect however - I read it like a joke, with different voices.

So is Gotham completely unusable now that we've seen it on every Obama sticker from here to DC?

eh, boring. workable, but not funny. And it should be.

nice sketch. a very natural visual concept for the title, which is great, but it doesn't feel finished.

should every element be treated exactly the same? The first is a quote. The second is a subtitle. Third is author attribute. I don't know, maybe quote marks for the first, not all caps for the second? Something.

I never like all caps. I love the 3D effect created by only the speech-bubble lines, though.

I own this cover and it helps to see the book in person (I know people always say this). It's a very small book (about 7" x 4.5") so the cover doesn't feel sparse. The best part of it though is the bright yellow spine with black text. It keeps the book from looking too morbid with the all black cover.

I like the play on the speech bubbles as well. I can't really think of a better way to visualize the telling of a joke. Maybe an old style illustration of two men laughing, but that feels overdone.

The book is also great and very informative. My favorite joke, "What's better than roses on a piano?" "Tulips on an organ."

Hmmm....the cover would be way better if it was in color and the speech balloons were more like the comic strip kind. Heck, even the lettering could be crazier!

Expected? Concept maybe, but not the execution.

The "bright yellow spine" sounds like a nice enhancement, but its being "a very small book" isn't persuasive. Gee, this is just a missed opportunity in every respect. The cover seems really to've been thrown away. It's kinda stupefying. The joke is on cover design I guess.
