It’s really bugging me that I can’t quite figure out what that type is made of. Electric tape, maybe?

Gorgeous cover.

My only critique is that the faded photograph that acts as the background has a light source of its own, but the shadows of the type don’t react accordingly.

It’s a pity there’s a photograph at all. It seems rather surplus to requirements.

I think that it would be a bit flat without the background – like the texture that it gives.
Beautiful cover!

I don’t think the light sources should match. If they did the title wouldn’t stand out as well as it does.

What’s interesting about the use of the photo is that ‘Sun’ is in a darker part of the picture and ‘Shadow’ is in a lighter part.
That said, the typeface is rather bothering me, but as a whole I think it works.

Definitely eye-catching, but i don’t quite understand what the type is made out of.

nathalie k, 2006-07-20 13:56:00

my guess is squid ink fettucine ;) I’m not picking but genuinely interested, was there much of this organic type stuff doing on before sagmeister?

Great treatment.
I would’ve preferred a cleaner non-grunge font for the author’s name etc in the upper right corner…kinda cheapens the rest of the look I think.

The book is a not very interesting criminal novel, and I am suprised this translation’s got such a nice cover! The original Swedish print has a really boring one (I’m from Sweden).

I hope the designer tipped her hat to Ed Ruscha.

When you look at the rest of the package, you see that the type is made of the “pulled” tape from a recording cassette.

its very beautiful…

ismail basbeth, 2006-10-06 03:41:00

i like the script / the author’s name box area is just plain messy

perry, 2006-11-09 18:12:00

Wow! awesome.

Ian B. Shimkoviak, 2007-02-19 16:09:00

This is fantastic. The Ed Ruscha shout is fair however…
