This one doesn't look like anything particularly spectacular, but it's worth a closer look/feel. The cover's central figure is embossed with a gnarly texture that keeps you coming back to touch the pickle (makes you feel all ugly inside). The carnival-esque decorative typeface is nicely contrasted with a stark layout — playbill typography meets white space.
The production details of this cover make it subtlety interesting without being over the top, and the visual elements hold it all together nicely.
And here is a cover that is living proof that if you apply some print techniques to an otherwise uneventful cover you can create something with a new kind of depth and character. Now imagine this printed on high gloss cheap stock. I think that visually any time you have something odd like a cucumber and circus type you have a recipe for something that sparks interest. Now all you have to do is get this baby dirty with muddy hands... you know, for that other added depth. The Human printing technique if you will.
...you know, I really like the dull way the "carnival-style" type is set so that it intentionally works hard against the carnival quality. Nice tension.

note: Eggers' special 'Fur-edition' if Wild Things is perfect and appropriate. Just wanted to make that clear.

With or without the production treatments this cover works well for me. And I quite like the (seemingly) simple typography.

This reminds me of Erwin Wurm (Austrian Artist)
